Nicholas the Elder has passed. Blessed
was the life he led for over 90 years, first as a renowned
baseball player, second as a soldier (appreciated personally
by his Commander in Chief, General Eisenhower); then as a
loving and caring father, then as a farmer, deigned to carry-on
the tradition of his grandfather Alessandro, tilling the
rich soil of Concord, to produce vegetables unexcelled in
their perfection. There are many stories to be told
about Old Nick.
Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the lives of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children... this is not a way of life in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron.

Day 2008. Since Doug took over the Battery, it has never
looked and performed better. Its history is studded with
the work of many members of the Macone Family, and it is
an honor to see that it is still riding tall under his command.
